The Martín González del Valle scholarship programme is now underway. This year 95 students from the University of Oviedo will be completing their studies at a number of EDP work centres and areas. The energy company's Foundation allocates almost one million euros to the initiative every year, and in most cases this entails the students' first contact with the world of employment.

The scholarship programme reception was held at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, on the Llamaquique Campus in Oviedo. The head of Student Welfare at the University of Oviedo, Gemma Martínez, and the executive director of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins, presented the programme to students, urging them to take up this opportunity to enhance their knowledge and apply it in a practical context.

During the welcome event, the students received training on the EDP Group’s activities and the policies operated by it in fields such as information security, the environment and occupational risk prevention.

The students will take up their internships on 24 October. They will have practical training in all areas of the company - corporate, generation, distribution and sales.

These are paid scholarships over a period of up to ten months, and account for 800 hours. Each of the students will be allocated a tutor to supervise their training throughout the programme.

Following the period of scholarship applications in September, the University of Oviedo chose the 95 students with a range of over 20 specialities from the various Faculties and Schools, in addition to students on university master courses. Degree disciplines include Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics and Law.

In addition to the agreement with the University of Oviedo, the EDP Foundation has agreements with other Spanish universities and schools to encourage the training of students at the different work facilities and centres that the company has in other communities.

The objective of the Martín González del Valle scholarship programme is to promote practical training at EDP for students from the University of Oviedo. This is the University's most outstanding internship plan, and also one of the Foundation's leading initiatives. Since its launch in 1984, more than 100 people who took part in the programme have joined the EDP Group workforce in Spain.
