The “Move your Heart” initiative was an invitation to walk 3 km with the EDP Volunteer team to pile more energy into a good cause.
EDP’s 1 km – 1 € Solidarity Challenge on the FADE Asturias Entrepreneurs’ Foundation’s Interbusinesses scheme, with the slogan “Walk 3 km, Run 5 km, Pedal 15 km or Walk 1 km with the family”, was well received, and brought in 306 participants from more than 30 companies, featuring EDP, from 10 different locations.
The proceeds from enrolments came to 1,530 €, a sum donated in full to the Asturias Down Syndrome Association. The EDP Spain Foundation donated the same amount to social refectories, and added 1 € for each kilometre entered in the APP. A total of 9,476 km, which the EDP Foundation donated to the Food Bank, the Economic Kitchen and the Siervas de Jesús.
We also took this Solidarity Challenge to schools, in order to add in children’s energy, and they contributed 1 € per km in a relay event. Participation by 1,490 children in pre-school and primary schools, Verdemar in Santander, Rio Piles in Gijón, Germán Fernández Santos and Dulce Nombre de Jesús in Oviedo, notched up 858 km, and the children were well aware of this solidarity cause and proud of their contribution. The youngest participants were given colour-in aprons, and primary school children were given a Dimo torch.
The EDP Volunteers also used the “Move your Heart” initiative to take up the challenge of walking 3 km to contribute energy to a solidarity cause. The event, which took place on Friday 28 May, brought together a group of employees, pensioners, associates and family members.
The energy of all those involved came to 11,900 €. The EDP Foundation rounded up this sum and donated 4,000 € to the Economic Kitchen, 4,000 € to the Food Bank, and 4,000 € to the Breakfasts served by the Siervas de Jesús.
The symbolic cheques were presented this week to the 3 organisations at an event organised by FADE, where the proceeds of enrolments were also presented to the Down Syndrome Association.
There’s no doubt that people’s energy moves the world.
