Down Madrid's ‘Environmental Entrepreneurship’ project, in which the EDP Foundation is collaborating, received an award at the sixth edition of the ‘Innovación + Sostenibilidad + Red 2020’ (2020 Innovation + Sustainability + Network) awards organised by the economic newspaper Expansión, which recognise initiatives by companies and organisations in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The organisation won recognition as a ‘sustainable institution’, together with Red Eléctrica de España, in the ‘Large sustainable company’ category, while the GvSig Association won in the ‘SME’ category.
The Chairman of the Down Madrid Board, Ignacio Egea Krauel, thanked the organisers for creating and keeping the awards going over the years. In his opinion, at a time of crisis like the one we are experiencing, we need to take action and be more innovative than ever: “organisations need to try to do something different from what we have been doing up till now”.
During his speech, he highlighted the work of people with intellectual disabilities involved in the project. “They have become agents for promoting and raising awareness among Down Madrid employees and the schools and companies that visit us to learn about the project”, he said. It has also had an impact on the Down Madrid team's daily work and the essential support of the EDP Foundation. “This project is run by them and for them”, he concluded.
Luz Minera is the title of the winning project of the second Public Art Ideas Competition, a competition organised by the EDP Foundation.
