The EDP FOUNDATION is sponsoring a new mountain adventure for Alberto Iñurrategi, Juan Vallejo and Mikel Zabalza. During the WOPeak expedition, the team will embark in June on three consecutive expeditions: the Paiju Peak, the Jannu and the Cho Oyu in the Karakorum and Himalaya ranges, where they will climb new routes or ones that have rarely been done.
The project sponsored by the EDP FOUNDATION has a dual value, as the three mountaineers in WOPeak are backed by the WOP Foundation, a company that fights against neurodegenerative diseases and which subsidises scientific projected searching for curative therapies.
The reason for this union is the mountaineers’ philosophy regarding their expeditions: new routes or ones that have barely been done, technical difficulty and complete self reliance, which fits in perfectly with the key messages of the WOP Foundation. During the press conference to present the operation, Mikel Rentería, the WOP founder, explained that “mountaineering and this team exemplify the WOP message. Even though the summit seems out of reach, we will continue tirelessly forwards. We are determined to carry out work as a team to strive to fight against neurodegenerative diseases”.
Luz Minera is the title of the winning project of the second Public Art Ideas Competition, a competition organised by the EDP Foundation.
