The EDP Foundation scholarship programme, Martín González del Valle Scholarships, is underway. 155 students from the University of Oviedo, from more than 30 specialities are taking part in it and joined EDP this week to carry out training internships during the 2018-2019 year.
The reception for students took place at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, in Oviedo. The programme was presented by the Vice-Chancellor of Students of the University of Oviedo, Elisa Miguélez, and the executive director of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins.
During the welcome event, the students received training on the EDP Group’s activities and the policies that it has adopted in fields such as information security, the environment and occupational risk prevention. In addition, the students learned the destinations where they will carry out their training this year, covering different areas and facilities of the company.
The EDP Foundation has allocated a million euros to this training programme. After the scholarship application period, the University of Oviedo selected these 155 students from more than 30 specialities from the various faculties and schools, as well as students who are studying a master's degree. Qualifications include electrical engineering, commerce and marketing, chemistry, economics and law.
Each scholarship has a duration of six months. Internships are carried out under the supervision of tutors to train students. For the vast majority, joining EDP is their first contact with the world of work.
In addition to the agreement with the University of Oviedo, the EDP Foundation has agreements with other universities and schools to encourage the training of students in the different work facilities and centres that the company has in other communities. This year, 35 students will join work centres in Madrid, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Andalusia, Murcia, Galicia, Aragon, Navarre and Valencia.
The objective of the EDP Foundation scholarship programme is to promote practical training at EDP for students from the University of Oviedo. This is the university's most outstanding internship plan, as well as one of the most important initiatives developed by the Foundation itself. Since its launch in 1984, more than 100 people who have taken part in the programme have been incorporated into the EDP Group workforce in Spain.
In addition to the scholarship programme, the energy company supports Dual Vocational Training. In July, after EDP joined the Dual Vocational Training programme of the Principality of Asturias, 17 students from different specialities joined the programme to carry out training internships.
