The EDP Foundation is backing this event (Inspiring Women in Science: Yes, we nano!), to be held on 28 May at Gijón's “Palacio de Congresos” conference centre, as part of the 10th International Conference on Fine Particle Magnetism. The project sets out to publicise the role of female scientists, banish stereotypes and arouse vocations to boost women's presence in the worlds of science.
To quote the organisers of the event, “we need more girls with a scientific vocation, and this means the concept of women in science must be perceived as normal by society”. This is one of the main ideas to be conveyed by the initiative, which seeks to boost scientific talent and inspire the new generations.
The event, organised by the University of Oviedo, will be attended by renowned female scientists, to explain what induced them to make a career out of science, their experiences and their ideas to boost the presence of women in this area. The event will also be attended by representatives of groups and institutions in the region.
The ICFPM19 will be held at the Gijón Trade Fair from 27 to 31 May, with some 200 researchers of worldwide renown such as María Vallet-Regí, Sarah Majetich, Teresa Pellegrino, Puerto Morales and Valeria Rodionova, among others.
The economic newspaper Expansión recognised the organisation as a ‘sustainable institution’ at the sixth edition of the ‘Innovación + Sostenibilidad + Red 2020’ awards
