The EDP Foundation has concluded the third year of the Solidarity Energy initiative. By investing more than 174,000 euros, the Foundation has introduced energy improvements in the homes of 25 families and in 23 centres run by various NGOs in Asturias, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia and Madrid. Altogether these improvements benefit nearly 20,000 people.
Among the energy improvements brought about in 2017, the installation of CO detectors is especially worth mentioning. The Foundation has also placed commemorative plaques in the centres where it has carried out initiatives.
The agreement signed in 2017 with Ferroli, which provides 60% discounts on boilers and heaters, also stands out.
Solidarity Energy is an initiative that is carried out in collaboration with Cáritas and the Red Cross. The aim is to improve the safety, well-being and energy efficiency of the families most at risk and in centres of the NGOs that collaborate on this. The average annual energy savings achieved by introducing these measures in 2017 is estimated to be 17%.
Since it was launched in 2015, the EDP Foundation has allocated more than 437,000 euros to Solidarity Energy, which has carried out improvements in the homes of 178 families and in 32 centres, which have benefited almost 22,500 people.
In order to develop this initiative, the EDP Foundation can rely on the participation of various EDP business areas, especially on the Customer Service and Operations Department, and it is open to collaboration with all employees, through the Corporate Volunteer Programme.
