175 students from Oviedo University, who are taking part in the EDP Foundation grant programme, have received the diplomas that accredit their training at the energy company. The rector of Oviedo University, Santiago García, and the manager of the EDP Foundation, Nicanor Fernández, presented the students with their diplomas. The event took place in the Main lecture Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University.
This year the EDP Foundation has allocated a million Euros to the programme. The students began their training period in October. Since then, they have carried out their practical training at various workplaces belonging to the company. As a result, for example, there are students at the power plants in Aboño and Soto de Ribera, at the corporate headquarters in Oviedo or at the workplace in Roces, in Gijón.
The EDP Foundation grants, which are a result of the agreement signed with Oviedo University, are paid and last for a six-month period which can be extended. Each of the grant holders is assigned a tutor, who helps and supervises their work. This academic year (2016-2017) students from more than 30 specialities joined the programme, including the degrees in Company Administration and Management and various courses taught at the Polytechnic School of Engineering in Gijón, with 70 and 40 students, respectively.
For the students, this grant programme represents their first contact with the world of business. Right from the very first day they join work teams and take part in different projects.
With this programme, EDP reinforces its close collaboration with the university community, as part of its commitment to encouraging talent and knowledge.
As well as the agreement with Oviedo University, the EDP Foundation has also signed agreements with other Spanish universities and schools to promote the training of more students at the different facilities and workplaces that the company has in other communities. As a result of this, more than 20 students are carrying out practical training in Madrid, Barcelona, La Coruña, Valencia and Zaragoza.
The EDP Foundation grant programme aims to provide practical training at EDP for students from Oviedo University. This is the leading work placement scheme at the University and one of the most important initiatives run by the Foundation. Since it was set up in 1983, over 100 people who took part in the programme have gone on to join the workforce of the EDP Group in Spain.
The economic newspaper Expansión recognised the organisation as a ‘sustainable institution’ at the sixth edition of the ‘Innovación + Sostenibilidad + Red 2020’ awards
