The EDP Foundation and Liberbank join forces for environmental education

04.04.2019

The EDP Foundation and Liberbank have signed a sponsorship agreement with the Asturias Bear Foundation (FOA) for the project “Environmental information agents on protected natural spaces”. This project, which will be carried out in July, August and September, will make it possible to promote environmental awareness and education, and the conservation and protection of protected natural spaces, within the framework of the objectives of the FOA, specifically in the habitat of the Cantabrian brown bear in Asturias.

The agreement was signed by the director of the FOA, José Tuñón, the executive director of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins, and the Director of Institutional Relations of Liberbank, Ana Echenique. Thanks to the support and sponsorship of the EDP Foundation and Liberbank, the FOA may have several environmental information agents in key spaces such as the Senda del Oso (Bear Trail) or the Somiedo Natural Park, among others, who will advise visitors on responsible practices and civic behaviour in natural environments.

These information agents will travel at all times in electric vehicles, which will recharge at one of the more than 60 EDP recharging points in the region. In addition, they will take advantage of chatting with visitors to learn about their perception of the conservation of the Cantabrian brown bear, observation tourism and the foundation’s activities. All this information will then be analysed in order to draw the relevant conclusions and to further deepen the dissemination of this knowledge.

Initiatives of this type were launched last summer in protected areas in other communities, with an outcome that their organisers considered “excellent”.
