ASPANOVAS, the Association of parents of children and adolescents with cancer in Bizkaia, is launching a new solidarity challenge. On this occasion, if the health situation resulting from COVID19 allows it, 3 marathons will be held on July 16, 17 and 18 in 3 emblematic places in Bilbao and Bizkaia: the San Mamés Stadium, the Begoña Basilica and the Arriaga Theatre.
The heart and soul of this challenge is once again Edu Zapata, the charity fund-raising athlete who already completed 100 km around Cruces University Hospital in a marathon in 2019. Edu will be supported by his personal trainer, Imanol Loizaga, the Spanish veteran marathon champion, and by anyone who would like to cheer him on during the 3 runs. If the health authorities advise against it and it is not possible to have support runners, Edu Zapata will run the 3 marathons alone.
The aim of the Bilbao 360º Aspanotxus solidarity challenge is to raise €8,000, which would finance 10% of the ASPANOVAS Hospital Support programme. Anyone who would like to support this initiative can “Sponsor solidarity km” of the 3 marathons, through a fund-raising platform, make donations directly to the programme or also purchase commemorative t-shirts of the event to support this solidarity initiative.
Through its support, the EDP Foundation aims to contribute to improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families, which has been greatly aggravated by the pandemic.
