The Princesa de Asturias Foundation will be receiving six 100% electric cars for its activities during the week of its Awards, thanks to a cooperation agreement between the Princesa de Asturias Foundation and the EDP Foundation.
The cars were delivered at Oviedo's Hotel de la Reconquista by the executive director of the EDP Foundation, Vanda Martins, to the head of the Princesa de Asturias Foundation, Teresa Sanjurjo.
The six cars were supplied by Resnova Group dealers in the region, and will be recharging their batteries at facilities installed in Asturias by EDP, using those at the energy company's own recharging points and also those it has installed in public locations. All six cars have a large measure of travel autonomy. Four of them are BMWs (model i3) and the other two are Hyundais, models Kona and Ionic.
The six cars reaffirm the solid commitment undertaken by the Princesa de Asturias Foundation in 2011 to offset and reduce its carbon footprint during the week of its awards. This constitutes another step in cooperation with the Ecology and Development Foundation (ECODES), which has granted the awards the ZeroCO2 label for the eighth year running.
The electric car is the only vehicle with 0% emissions, and is also free of noise pollution. Its efficiency rating triples that of combustion vehicles, and savings in terms of rates for recharging can be as much as 90% in comparison to traditional cars.
The cars boost the close relations between the Princesa de Asturias Foundation and the EDP Foundation, and also underscores the solid commitment of both organisations to sustainable mobility.
Luz Minera is the title of the winning project of the second Public Art Ideas Competition, a competition organised by the EDP Foundation.
