Organised to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Club Natación Abulense swimming club, the tournament was a great success in terms of the numbers of participants and spectators that it attracted.
The event was attended by 300 young swimmers in three age groups, plus small groups of the youngest swimmers and advanced swimmers, drawn from 13 clubs, 11 of them from Castilla y León and two from the Regional Community of Madrid.
A total of 72 races were held. The top three teams were Club Natación Móstoles, Acuático de Salamanca and Medinense, which were also the teams that brought most swimmers to the tournament. The home club finished fourth.
Ex professional cyclist and 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre, who was born in Madrid but lives in Ávila, awarded the medals to the winners in the morning events, and Miguel Ángel Abad, councillor responsible for sports at Ávila Municipal Council and José María del Amo, a Chief Inspector at the National Police Training Academy, did likewise in the afternoon.
