His Majesty King Felipe VI, along with the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has visited the exhibition on the Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa, on show at the Queen Sofía National Museum and Arts Centre, in Madrid. The exhibition is sponsored by the EDP Foundation.
Felipe VI and Rebelo de Sousa were accompanied by several authorities, among them the Minister for Education, Culture and Sports, Iñigo Méndez De Vigo, Chair of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Queen Sofía Museum, Ricardo Martí Fluxá, Chair of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Isabel Mota, and the director of the Queen Sofía National Museum and Arts Centre, Manuel Borja-Villel. The EDP Foundation, the sponsor of the exhibition, was represented by its director, Vanda Martins.
The event is part the President of Portugal’s State visit to Spain, held from April 16 to 18.
The exhibition “Pessoa. All art is a form of literature” explores the Portuguese avante-garde scene that took place in the first half of the 20th century, based upon the currents established by the Portuguese poet. It is open to the public until May 7.
Pessoa created his own avante-garde and became the exceptional interpreter of the crisis of modern subjects and their certainties, transferring to his work the multiple others he blamed for his existential disorientation.
