175 students from the University of Oviedo who took part in the EDP Foundation scholarship programme have received diplomas that accredit their training at the company. The rector of the University of Oviedo, Vicente Gotor, the chief executive officer of EDP España, Javier Sáenz de Jubera and the director of the EDP Foundation, Nicanor Fernández, handed out the diplomas to the students. The event took place in the Aula Magna (main hall) of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University.
The trainees began their training period at EDP in October. Since then, they have carried out their work experience at various work centres of the company. For example, there are trainees at the power stations in Aboño and Soto de Ribera, at corporate headquarters in Oviedo, at the Corredoria substation and at the Roces work centre in Gijon.
EDP Foundation scholarships, which are the result of an agreement signed with the University of Oviedo, are provided with 2,170 euros. Each of the alumni is assigned a tutor to help and supervise their work. The 2014-2015 course incorporated students from more than 30 specialities, including degrees in Business Administration and Management and Industrial Engineering, with 44 and 25 students, respectively.
In addition to the agreement with the University of Oviedo, the EDP Foundation has signed agreements with other Spanish universities and schools to encourage the training of more students in the different work facilities and centres that the company has in other communities. Thus, more than 20 students are carrying out work experience in Madrid, Barcelona, La Coruña, Valencia and Zaragoza.
The EDP Foundation scholarship programme is one of the most important initiatives that the Foundation itself undertakes and the most noteworthy work experience plan of the University of Oviedo. Since its launch in 1984, more than 100 people who have taken part in the programme have been incorporated into the EDP Group workforce in Spain.
