“A customer, a tree”

Every new customer that moves to EDP’s electronic invoicing system in Spain will mean a new expression of the energy company’s commitment to the environment. The EDP Foundation has signed collaboration agreements with various town councils to plant native trees.

The agreements state that the corresponding municipality will allocate areas of its property to be enhanced with the principles of sustainability, while the Foundation will take charge of planting and maintaining these trees.

The EDP Foundation launched the tree-planting programme in 2009. Since then, it has planted 83,000 trees in Asturias. One of the most prominent initiatives in this regard was the planting of 30,000 trees in the parish of San Martín del Valledor, which, in October 2011, suffered the largest fire recorded in Spain that year.

With the programme that it launched this year, the Foundation will have planted more than 100,000 trees in the region.
