The 31st EDP Ruta de la Conquista Half Marathon changes its running circuit. The almost one thousand runners that will come together on the 25th of May in the council of Cangas de Onís , which will be the start and finish line, and the circuit has been adapted so that the participants reach the halfway mark at the foot of the Basilica in the esplanade of the Real Sitio de Covadonga. As it turns out, on this edition, the race is part of the events commemorating Covadonga’s triple centenary. This is the main new feature, announced during the presentation given by the Club Atletismo Cangas de Onís, the Cangas de Onís Town Council and the EDP Foundation, main sponsor, as well as other collaborating companies.
The Mayor of Cangas de Onís, José Manuel González Castro, presided over the event in which the new circuit was presented. Running fans from every part of the country choose the last Saturday of May for their annual visit to the Asturian council to cover the 21,097 meters. The president of the organising club, José Fuente, presented the poster and official t-shirt of the race pointing out the event’s tradition that, for over three decades, has maintained the same popular philosophy since it was created. The direct of the EDP Foundation, Nicanor Fernández, who underscored the significant role popular running events such as the Ruta de la Conquista play in the local economy and in a healthy lifestyle.
Luz Minera is the title of the winning project of the second Public Art Ideas Competition, a competition organised by the EDP Foundation.
