330 cyclists took part in the 6th Monte Areo Ride

09.19.2018

On Saturday, September 15, 330 cyclists enjoyed the 6th Monte Areo BTT Solidarity Ride. The EDP Foundation sponsored this event, which consists of a mountain bike ride in Guimarán (Carreño, Asturias) coinciding with the local festivals.

The Monte Areo BTT cycling group is the organiser of this solidarity rally, which has been held every year since 2013 with the aim of raising funds for the Padre Galván Association and child cancer research.

At this edition, more than three hundred participants enjoyed two route options of 26 and 52 kilometres, with an accumulated ascent and descent of 1,000 metres. A number of EDP employees were among those that registered.

Monte Areo comes under the Carreño town council and is a small hill near the thermal power station of Aboño that includes a group of dolmens, among other things. It is also the junction of the historic roads the Camino de Santiago (St. James’s Way) and the Via de la Plata (Silver Way), at its start from Gijón towards its climb up to the plateau. The latest edition, the 6th Monte Areo BTT Ride reinforces its importance.
